My Gender Studies professors taught me how to be a global citizen and activist; how to recognize the pitfall of American exceptionalism; how to find the underlying shared humanity that transcends cultural, ideological, and religious differences; and how to see past the imaginary lines that create borders drawn on a piece of paper that value one people over another. Things that we desperately need now. Gender studies is the ultimate humanities field.
