Our department offers a Practicum in Gender Studies (GNDR G480) to allow students with junior or senior standing twelve hours of coursework to craft their own directed study of issues or policies related to gender or sexuality based on a field experience such as an internship. This practicum course is designed to enable you to apply the lessons and methods taught in Gender Studies within a field relevant to your academic or professional interests.
To complete the practicum, students have held such positions as these:
- Translator for community wellness WIC center
- Teaching assistant for a Gender Studies class
- Volunteer at Middle Way House, a community center that provides shelter, advocacy, legal services, and resources to protect and empower victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
