Department of Gender Studies

This course provides an examination of trans studies within the field of women’s and gender studies through critical investigations into texts depicting transness and gender deviance.  We consider the “trans” of transness, thinking through movement and change to confront the frequently contradictory grammars that structure how gender operates across societies.  We will explore what trans media objects say not only about transness but also about gender, race, and identity broadly.
