This award is given annually in recognition of outstanding teaching by a Gender Studies graduate student. The winner of the Barbara C. Gray Award receives a scholarship paid to their bursar’s account in the amount of $735.00 and is recognized at the department’s end-of-the-year celebration for graduating students.
The terms of eligibility are as follows:
- Applicants must be current Ph.D. students in Gender Studies at Indiana University Bloomington (minors are not eligible to apply).
- The award is based on self-nomination.
- Self-nominations should take the form of a dossier comprised of a two-page statement of teaching philosophy, a summary of student evaluation data, and any other materials that help to document a record of teaching excellence (e.g., sample syllabi, innovative assessments, teaching observation reports, carefully-selected correspondence with students). The completed dossier may not exceed fifteen pages in length.
- Past recipients of the award are not eligible.
